January 2005 - Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan - Front Seat Belts - Recall Number 15017

Description of Problem:
Saab Automobile AB has established that a safety related condition might exist in certain Saab 9-3 Sport Sedans.

It has been established that vehicles have been produced where the front seat belt retractors may have been damaged during the manufacturing process. If the retractor wire breaks, the webbing will "spool out" and not retract. In the event of an accident, a seat belt that will not retract, will compromise the seat belt's functionality.

Rectification:-
A Saab service technician will replace the front seat belts on your vehicle. The work will be performed free of charge.

Vehicle Range:-
MY 2003 and MY2004 Saab 9-3 Sport Sedans are affected. This recall does not apply to the Saab 9-3 Convertible model. The VIN can be seen on the plate located on the right hand bottom corner of the windscreen (when facing the front of the vehicle) or alternately can be seen on the registration label. It is 17 characters long and commences with YS3...

Vehicles requiring work are within the following VIN ranges:-

Model Year Last eight characters of VIN
2003 - 2004 31000001 - 41019218

Owner Contact:-
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted directly by a letter from Saab Australia. (Saab Australia is responsible importing Saab vehicles into Australia and New Zealand). The letter provides details of the recall and requests the customer to contact a Saab dealer to make a booking to have the appropriate work carried out.
