HOLDEN COMMODORE REMAINS A KIWI FAVOURITE

The Holden Commodore has once again secured its position as one of New Zealand’s favourite cars, selling 2,875 vehicles during 2009.

The Commodore out sold other models such as the Suzuki Swift, Ford Falcon and Mazda 3 to rank as the second highest selling model for the 2009 year.

Simon Carr, Holden New Zealand’s managing director, says the Commodore’s performance, despite the economic environment, proves that the large car will always have a place in kiwi garages.

“It is a great achievement that in a year when the large car segment declined by 31% that the Commodore remained the second highest selling car in the country.

“We believe that the improved fuel economy of up to 13% on our new models and the power, space and comfort the Commodore provides has helped to ensure that it remains a kiwi favourite.”

Holden’s new MY10 Commodore range went on sale in September 2009. Featuring the new SIDI technology, the Commodore Omega achieves fuel economy of just 9.3 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres in the official ADR81/02 testing – making it more efficient than some major four cylinder competitors.

Developing new fuel efficiency technologies and alternative fuel solutions remains a priority for Holden with a new Commodore capable of running on E85 blended ethanol due to launch in New Zealand later this year.

“Holden is developing and adopting more fuel and environmental technologies than at any time in our history,” Mr Carr says.

“We recognise our customer’s expectations in terms of fuel efficiency and environmental impacts and by applying advanced technologies, we aim to ensure tomorrow’s cars will be safer, cleaner, and more efficient.”
